ASK YOUR JOURNAL

Ask a question. Get your own words back.

Ask in your own words. Answers come only from your journal, every point links to the entry it came from, and if you never wrote it down, it tells you.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

What would you ask?

Pick a kind of question, then a question, to see an example answer with the entries it came from. Everything here is a made-up journal.

HOW IT ANSWERS

Only your words, with sources.

  1. It looks only at your entries

It searches the entries you wrote, scanned or imported, and nothing else: not the internet, and nothing about you from anywhere else.

  2. It writes an answer from them

The AI writes a short answer using only the passages it found, in plain words, keeping what you wrote apart from any gentle reading of it.

  3. Every point links to its entry

Each statement about your life cites the entry it came from. Quotes are checked word for word against your entry before you see them.

If it can't find enough, it says so.

No guessing to fill the gap. It tells you what kinds of entries would help instead.

NO ENTRIES FOUNDExample

“What did I do on my trip to Japan?”

I don't have enough journal evidence to answer that yet. Entries written during the trip, or while you were planning it, would help.

WHAT IT WON'T DO

It never fills the gaps for you.

  • It won't Make up memories

No invented events, feelings, dates, people or quotes. A quote it can't find in your entry loses its quotation marks; a claim it can't back up is left out.

  • It won't Use anything but your journal

It doesn't look you up, and earlier answers in a conversation are never used as evidence: it always goes back to your entries.

  • It won't Diagnose you or give medical, legal or therapy advice

It talks about what you wrote, gently. It isn't a doctor, a lawyer or a therapist, and it won't pretend to be.

“Walked the river trail at sunrise. Felt like a kid again. My sister kept stopping to point out herons, and for once I didn’t check the time. Home by eight with muddy shoes and the whole day still ahead of us.”

QUESTIONS

Questions about Ask

Is it reading my whole journal?
No. For each question it searches your journal and reads only the passages that might answer it, never more than about 60,000 characters (roughly 25 typed pages). Separately, so search can find entries by meaning, each entry is indexed by Cloudflare's AI inside our cloud provider; that index is private to you.
Can I turn it off?
Ask only runs when you ask a question. Nothing answers anything in the background, so if you never ask, the AI never reads your entries for Ask. A switch to keep particular entries out of Ask is coming soon.
Is my journal used to train AI?
No. Under Anthropic's terms for businesses, what we send isn't used to train its models, and it's deleted within 30 days. Cloudflare's search AI doesn't train on it either, and we never do. What the AI sees
Which AI is it?
Claude, made by Anthropic. Your question goes from our server to Claude through Cloudflare's AI Gateway with logging switched off. Your browser never talks to the AI directly.
Can I see where an answer came from?
Yes. Every point links to the entry it came from, and opens that entry with the passage highlighted.
Does it remember what I asked before?
Within a conversation, yes: you can ask follow-ups like “what about the year after?”. But it never treats its own earlier answers as evidence; it goes back to your entries every time.
